Common Running Injuries.

Runner's Knee

This condition accounts for 25% of all knee injuries. Often referred to as "runner's knee," it is a common condition characterised by pain around or behind the kneecap.

Iliotibial Band

Pain (ITB)

This injury occurs when the iliotibial band, a thick band of tissue running from the hip to the knee, becomes inflamed. This can cause pain on the outside of the knee, especially during activities like stair climbing, running or cycling.

Achilles Tendinopathy

A common overuse injury affecting the Achilles tendon, which connects the calf muscles to the heel bone. Runners often experience pain and stiffness in the back of the ankle. This condition typically arises from repetitive stress or sudden increases in training intensity, leading to degeneration of the tendon’s fibers.

Plantar Fasciitis

Inflammation of the plantar fascia, the thick band of tissue running along the bottom of the foot from the heel to the toes. Runners with this condition typically experience sharp, stabbing pain in the heel, especially with the first steps in the morning or after periods of rest.

Shin Splints and Stress Fracture

Shin splints and stress fractures result from cumulative strain on the bone. Eventually, the bone weakens and becomes susceptible to tiny cracks, or stress fractures if not carefully managed.
